Youngster freestyles her way to swimming dream
SWIMMING: Roma All Stars swimmer Sophie Pollock aspires too freestyle her way into the Australian Olympic team.
The 10-year-old, who has been swimming for three years, said watching the last Commonwealth Games on television motivated her to become a great swimmer.
"I love swimming but what I like most about being a Roma All Star is the good opportunity to go away to carnivals and swim against kids from other towns,” she said.
"My favourite stroke is freestyle and I would love to swim at the Olympics in the 50m freestyle.”
Sophie has added many medals to her trophy cabinet this swimming season but said her favourite achievement for the year was making the Roma and district team which competed in Chinchilla for southwest selection.
"I am very proud of myself because I have been trying my best and getting personal best times regularly,” she said.
"I have really enjoyed this swim season because I have improved and made lots of new friends.”
With five weeks left of 2018/19 season, Sophie hopes to put in one of her fastest 50m freestyle times so she can achieve her goal of making the southwest team to compete in Brisbane.
