YOUNG Toowoomba beauty Tess Crichton has jetted off to Milan to expand her modelling career.
The former St Ursula's student originally had her heart set on being a primary school teacher until a friend encouraged her to enter the Girlfriend Model Search competition in 2011.
She placed in the top eight girls for Queensland and said it was enough for her to catch the modelling bug.
"I didn't originally want to enter but my friend encouraged me and I am so glad I did. It was a great way to get started," Ms Crichton said.
"I would encourage any girls to follow in their dreams because if you want something bad enough it will happen," she said.
In a short four years, the 19-year-old has had the pleasure of modelling in the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, shooting for Vogue and now has the opportunity to model in Europe.
She has already worked with Australia fashion icons such as supermodel Jennifer Hawkins, David Jones ambassador Jess Gomes and make-up artist Napoleon Perdis.
Ms Crichton flew to Milan on Saturday and said she was incredibly excited to start her new journey.

"A booker from Milan came over in February and was scouting girls from my agency to head overseas," Ms Crichton said.
"The meeting went well but I didn't expect anything to come from it so I was so excited when they said they wanted me.
"It will be great exposure and having all the extra experience will help me land jobs in Australia.
"In my field, I have the chance to make people look up to me so I want to make sure I am a positive, healthy and fit role model for younger girls.
"I feel so blessed to be given all these opportunities and it is just amazing that my dreams are coming true," she said.
Ms Crichton also has a contract with Next Model Management in Los Angeles and hopes to take on the American modelling scene next.
To add to her busy schedule, she plans to go to university and complete a course in nursing and paramedics.
