Wyatt Roy concedes seat of Longman

WYATT Roy has finally conceded the seat of Longman.

The youngest member ever elected to parliament took to Facebook to thank his staff, volunteers, and the voters of Longman for the past six years.

"While we will likely win more first preference votes than any other candidate, after a lot of careful counting and the distribution of preferences it looks as if we will fall short of the numbers required to win Longman," Mr Roy posted.

The post suggested that the 2016 federal election may spell the end of his political career altogether.

"There is a saying that almost all political careers end in tears," the post read.

"Well for me, this is not true.

"We have left our community better than when we began six years ago.

"Our region has seen strong employment growth, better infrastructure and improvements in vital services, particularly mental health."

Nearly a week after the election, Mr Roy has congratulated Susan Lamb on her win.

"I would like to congratulate my successor," he wrote.

"I wish her the best in representing an amazing community in the federal parliament.

"Finally I want to thank my family, friends and loved ones who have sacrificed so much over the past six years. I can't wait to see a lot more of them - and to spend more time just being 26."

Mr Roy declined to elaborate on his comments.
