Woman's lucky escape as car washed away in floodwaters

A WOMAN had a lucky escape after she drove through floodwaters at an unmarked flood way last night.

Clifton police said the woman had been driving along the Felton-Clifton Rd near Kings Creek when she hit the water about 7pm.

OIC Sergeant Bruce Willett said about 30cm of water was across the road when the small sedan became stuck in the floodway.

 

"The woman has not seen the water in the dark and has hit the water and ran off the road," Sgt. Willett said.

"It wasn't at a marked floodway.

"We had a lot of rain in a couple of hours."

The woman, who was not injured, managed to free herself from the vehicle.

Police and QFES crews retrieved the vehicle from the ditch.

Sgt Willett said drivers should take extra care when driving at night during storms.

"When storms are happening, drivers should just take care," he said.
