Woman steals lost wallet and buys $300+ worth of booze, durries
A SELF-employed contactor discovered hundreds of dollars of expenses on his bank card for alcohol and cigarettes after he lost his wallet.
The contactor was travelling through Charleville on September 18 to get to Quilpie for his work, but realised that night that his wallet went missing, according to Charleville police.
He fuelled up at a Charleville service station and purchased groceries in town before realising his wallet, which contained his business’ Visa card, was missing.
The victim received a bank statement on October 1 showing five unauthorised transactions totalling $376.25 from the Charleville RSL and Schouten’s General Store.
The alleged offender used payWave to buy smokes and alcohol with the victim’s card.
After reviewing CCTV footage, police have arrested and charged a 38-year-old woman with stealing or alternatively receiving tainted property.
She was also slapped with five fraud offences and will appear in the Charleville Magistrates court at a later date.
