Man charged with attempted murder after Kuttabul assault
Police have charged a 35- year-old South Australian man after an assault in Kuttabul yesterday.
It is alleged about 12.15am a man armed with a knife confronted a 23-year-old man in the back yard of the Sorensens Rd residence and stabbed him once in the torso.
The armed man allegedly then entered the house and stabbed a 21-year-old woman twice in the torso causing her to drop an infant she was holding at the time.
The man, woman and male infant were taken to the Mackay Base Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries intially.
However after surgery in Mackay the 21-year-old woman was transported to Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital, a Mackay Base Hospital spokeswoman said.
A 35-year-old man is due to be extradited from South Australia later this week and has been charged with attempted murder, enter dwelling with intent, acts intended to maim and assault.
He is expected to appear in the Mackay Magistrate's Court in January.
A man has been arrested in Adelaide in relation to the alleged stabbing at Kuttabul in the early hours of this morning.
A Police Media spokesman said the man flew to South Australia from Mackay today.
He is yet to be interviewed by police, and no charges have been laid.
Police are expected to hold a media conference tomorrow morning with more information.
The 21-year-old woman who received multiple stabs wounds at a Sorensen's Rd residence will this afternoon be flown to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital in a critical condition.
The 23-year-old man who was also allegedly stabbed is in a stable condition at Mackay Base Hospital.
The 10-month-old baby boy who fell from the arms of the stabbed woman is also in hospital in a stable condition.
Earlier today, an SES search where the alleged stabbing took place failed to uncover the weapon.

The woman was holding a baby when she was stabbed.
A police spokesman said police were not releasing details of the suspect, but said he was known to the couple.
The baby was a relative of the 21-year-old woman.
According to a Mackay Base Hospital spokeswoman, the woman is in a critical condition while the man and the baby are in stable conditions.

A teenage boy in the residence has confronted the alleged intruder causing him to run off.
A 23-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman and a male infant, all from the Mackay area, were taken to the Mackay Base Hospital for treatment.
The infant is believed to have received minor injuries. Investigations are continuing with a crime scene established.
