Why regional touring is good for Maranoa netball
NETBALL: Darling Downs Panthers coach Rebecca Stower is surprised at how popular netball is out in the region, especially after visiting so many rural towns for coaching classes.
Her visit is part of the Country Netball Clinic Tour through the region with Maranoa Netball Association president Leona Collins, which saw the pair travel through the region for netball coaching sessions with local teams and groups.
The pair started in Chinchilla on September 17 and finished in St George on September 21.
Stower, who was named as Panthers coach earlier this year, said it was about building necessary netball skills out in regional towns.
"Darling Downs Netball needs to be visible in towns; this is boosting our profile,” she said.
"We don't want distance to disadvantage people, because if they don't build the skills now they'll end up missing out.”
The clinic tour fits into the part of Netball Cubs Program, which the pair hopes will expand into other regions once it is established in the Maranoa.
"It's ever changing and evolving, and the new people always build it up and bring new talents along the way,” Stower said.
Transport for the tour was supplied by Armstrong Auto Group.
