Whistblower officer loses job at Arthur Gorrie prison
A WHISTLEBLOWER at Arthur Gorrie Correctional Centre who was suspended after publicly raising concerns about prison officers' safety has officially parted ways with the prison.
Kylie Muscat was suspended from her role last year after she raised the safety concerns, in her capacity as a United Voice union delegate, in the Brisbane Times.
MORE NEWS:
Ms Muscat and the union took the case to Fair Work Australia and the Federal Court, but has since reached a settlement with the private operators, the GEO Group.
United Voice prisons co-ordinator Michael Clifford said Ms Muscat was now employed at the union, but she was unable to talk about her departure from Arthur Gorrie due to a confidentiality clause in that settlement.
But Mr Clifford that settlement had come at a cost to the union movement.
