What Reconciliation Week means to our locals
Joan Alexander
IT means a lot to me and it’s lovely that the tradition keeps going and everyone gets together to celebrate. Acknowledging the past is something that needs to be done to ensure that we care and look after each other, otherwise there won’t be anyone to do it. I’m very proud of the whole business of seeing people get together to celebrate Reconciliation Week.

THIS event is becoming more important and I see it as an avenue to move forward and celebrate the achievements of local indigenous Australians. We want to focus on the positive aspects of the indigenous community for this week. I believe that if you don’t own the past, you can’t move on to the future, so it’s important that people get behind days like this. Overall, it’s a great community initiative and a great day to celebrate.

THE best part about this event is people of different cultures getting together to celebrate – it’s very inspiring. But it’s very important to acknowledge the past and realise that we are all one people and not divided. It’s a great community initiative to get behind.

THIS is the first time I’ve been to an event like Reconciliation Week and now that I’ve come along to it, I know more about the history and how important it is to our society. I’ve really enjoyed it. It’s good to talk to people and mix with other people in the town. I feel relieved that people are acknowledging the past and helping to move forward with positive initiatives.
