Former Warwick cop on drug, weapon and stealing charges

UPDATE 1PM:  The former Warwick police officer charged with a number of weapons and drug offences appeared in Warwick Magistrates Court this morning.

Ben Alexander Ephrain Dyball's case was adjourned on the grounds he needed time to obtain legal representation.

Mr Dyball faces nine charges including drug possession, unlawful weapon possession, possessing/acquiring restricted items, two counts of stealing and using a carriage service to menace, harass or cause offence.

His case was adjourned to August 15.

8AM: A former Warwick police officer will face court today on a range of charges, including drug offences.

Plain-clothed detectives arrested former senior constable Ben Dyball outside the Toowoomba Magistrates Court in May this year on a number of outstanding warrants.

The former officer was surrounded by a throng of plain-clothed detectives seen walking into the Toowoomba police station shortly after he was arrested at the courthouse.

He was formally charged with a number of offences including an offence under the Telecommunications Act regarding the use of a carriage service, possessing drugs, possessing restricted items under the Weapons Act, and stealing.

Mr Dyball was stationed on the Southern Downs in the mid-2000s at Warwick and Stanthorpe.

It is understood he held various roles within the police force including serving in the Warwick Traffic Branch during that time.

He is scheduled to appear in Warwick Magistrates Court today.
