Wallumbilla Show turns to future, involving kids
MARK Swan remembers a time more than a decade ago when Wallumbilla didn’t have an ag show – and he’s determined to never see those days return.
The Wallumbilla Show Society president has watched the annual event, coming up again on Friday and Saturday, go from strength to strength since it returned in 2004.
With more infrastructure, like the brand-new poultry pavilion shed, built at the showgrounds, Ms Swan said the society was turning to the show’s future by involving more kids.
“Where would the whole show circuit be if kids were not involved?” he said.
“We’re running with new sideshow attractions thanks to the Gill Bros and kids will start to be involved with the judging of sections – kids love the animals so it’s a good way to involve them.”
Mr Swan said the new poultry shed, half-funded by the Maranoa Regional Council, would be a big improvement from last year when all the chickens and ducks had to be housed in the hall.
“It was just a requirement for us to keep going – there are plenty of other projects we want to do in the future but this was first up,” he said.
Entry will be free on both Friday and Saturday, with the latter to feature all the main attractions.
