Wallabies back Lealiifano to beat leukaemia

Wallabies coach Michael Cheika is confident Christian Lealiifano will win his battle with leukaemia.

Several of Lealiifano's Wallabies teammates visited him in hospital on Sunday afternoon, hours after his shocking diagnosis was made public.

"The lads have been in contact with him - a few boys have been to see him already," Cheika said.

"He's right up for it (the battle with the disease), I am really positive for him.

"I believe he is going to get through, and get through well, he is a tough guy.

"I am backing him 100%. Whatever he needs, we will provide, be it friendship, support, whatever it is."

Lealiifano, who became a father only two months ago, was hospitalised late last week after falling ill.

The 28-year-old has played 19 Tests for the Wallabies since his debut in 2013 and 177 Super Rugby games for the Brumbies since 2007.
