Roma police arrest Dalby and Tara men for Taroom theft
A 32 year old man from Dalby and a 33 year old man from Tara will appear in Roma Magistrates Court on October 29 charged with burglary offences, possession of a dangerous drug and a number of other offences that allegedly occurred in Roma and Taroom earlier this week.
The two men are alleged to have stolen $15,000 worth of power tools, a safe and number of other items from a Taroom residence and to have been in possession of methamphetamines (Ice) and stolen licence plates from another state.
One of the men was also charged with entering a premise and committing an indictable offence in Roma.
Roma police were doing routine patrols on Tuesday morning at 4am near the BP on Bowen Street when they saw two men in the vicinity of a Green Holden Commodore Ute.
One of the men was walking away from the Ute and the other man on seeing the police jumped a fence and ran away.
The male person walking away was spoken to by the police and denied any knowledge of the Ute.
When police searched the Ute they found $15,000 worth of tools including power tools, a large tool box and a small personal safe.
The Ute had false plates from Western Australia on it.
The Ute and tools were seized and enquiries were made with WA police and the plates were found to be from a Brisbane business.
Checks revealed the Ute had been sighted by Taroom police on Monday night and further enquiries revealed a break and enter had occurred in a house and those tools and the safe were stolen from that house.
Roma Police then received a call that a male person was disturbed in a house in Roma close to McDonalds.
A description of the man was given and a subsequent search or Roma was undertaken by police.
As a result of that search police located the man who had originally been with the Ute with a man who matched the description for the Roma break and enter.
Both men were taken into custody and following further investigation were charged with various offences.
The Dalby man was charged with one count of burglary, one of entering a premise and committing an indictable offense, one of possession of a dangerous drug and one count of disqualified driving.
The Tara man was charged with burglary, possession of a dangerous drug, disqualified driving, utilising false plates on a motor vehicle and tainted property.
The Dalby man has been held in custody for breaching parole while the Tara man has been released on a bail undertaking.
PC Roma CIB senior constable Jono Colquhoun said uniform crews were making proactive patrols at 4am when they saw the vehicle which started the investigation.
"It doesn't matter what time of day or night it is police are actively serving the community," he said.
