LOCAL favourite Oggie has, against all odds, won the Roma Cup this afternoon.

With his place only secured after winning in Roma earlier this year, his jockey only given her provincial riding licence on Tuesday and after the race was nearly declared void after a controversial start, Oggie beat out a star-studded field to hand trainer Scott Rodgers his first Roma Cup.

Jockey Hannah English's first provincial run saw her beat proven winners Lesley Tilley (on Manfred the Man) and Matthew Kropp (on Billy Goat) after dominating the home straight.

Rodgers said the win was an indescribable feeling.

"It's amazing - everybody wants to win on their home track, but this is special," he said.
