VIDEO: Police looking for two men who assaulted 70-year-old

POLICE are looking for two males who assaulted a 70-year-old male walking along East Street last night.

The assault occurred about 8pm near the intersection of William Street.

Rockhampton CIB Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Moon said during the assault it was alleged the elderly man was struck with some sort of implement.

"The two males subsequently ran off which would appear to be a result of members of the community who were in close proximity and were able to come to the aid of the elderly gentleman," he said.

"The gentleman was taken to the hospital where he was treated for some lacerations and wounds to his head and body and was later released from hospital."

Rockhampton CIB Scott said it was not a great start to the New Year.
"Actions such as these disgust us as they do in the community and we put every effort into solving these matters."
