Video competition aimed at farm safety
The inaugural farm safety video competition has its sight set on young film makers.
Primary industries health and safety partnership (PIHSP) is inviting high school, university or agriculture students between the ages of 13-21 to create and submit a video about farm safety.
Chairman of the PIHSP advisory panel Patrick Murphy, said the video competition is designed to create awareness about farm safety in agricultures next generation.
"When it comes to farm safety and ensuring messages cut through with young people, there's no better way to get that message across than by delivering it with the voices of their peers," he said.
Mr Murphy said the PIHSP had never used this type of medium before but was hopeful of its success.
"This is the first time we've embarked on using a video competition," he said.
"We're confident its a great way to continue the conversation around safety."
The video clip can be a personal experience or something close to the heart.
The PIHSP uses examples such as a brother who never wears a helmet where he musters to friends who ignore flood markings when driving.
Videos contributed to the competition are hoped to circulate an understanding of dangerous practices undertaken in the rural sector.
Competition entries will be judged on: the impact of the message about farm safety, public benefit, research, creativity, originality and reasons to promote farm safety.
The winning entry will be awarded a $1000 cash prize.
Entries opened on January 16 and close on April 18.
