UPDATE, 4.30PM: Mackay Base Hospital's main entry has re-opened following a security threat earlier today.
Mackay Hospital and Health Service reported police bomb squad officers had x-rayed the aluminium case left at the main entry and found it to be empty.
A hospital spokeswoman wanted to thank the community, patients and staff for their patience and said staff were now able to retrieve vehicles and items left in work areas.
UPDATE: Mackay Base Hospital is continuing to respond to an incident at the front of the hospital.
A Block on Bridge Rd has been evacuated, the hospital said on social media.
Oncology patients have been relocated to G Block and afternoon dialysis sessions are being relocated to community renal in Nelson St.
Afternoon gynaecology appointments have been cancelled. All other appointments will still occur and people should attend the Specialist Outpatients Department for these.
The Emergency Department is open and no other services or areas of the hospital are affected.
Patient Travel and Admissions have been relocated. The hospital has staff to help direct patients to these areas.

EARLIER: Mackay police district Insp Ian Haughton said they have been stationed at Mackay Base Hospital after a 'suspect briefcase' was found.
"This morning we've had a call for service in relation to an aluminium briefcase being left at the front of an entrance to Mackay Base Hospital," he said.
"There is no threat in regard to that device however in the interest of public safety we are taking some steps to ensure everything is fine here.
"There are some areas of the hospital where we've moved people to a safer place.
"Security at the hospital has made contact with police and there's been a response by the officers and we're having a look at the circumstances."
He said officers from Rockhampton will be coming up to make "examinations of the briefcase.
"We've got a corresponding investigation going in regards to the person that has been who left the briefcase there," Insp Haughton said.
Mackay Hospital and Health Service issued a statment on social media that said the location of some services at Mackay Base Hospital has changed due to the temporary closure of the main entry.
Police are investigating the discovery of an unattended bag and have created an exclusion zone on Bridge Rd.
Patient Travel, Admissions and Women's Health Clinics have been relocated but continue to operate as normal.
Hospital staff and volunteers are on hand to re-direct the public to these services. Wheelchairs are available for people unable to walk the longer distance.
Anyone coming to Mackay Base Hospital should enter through the two alternative side entries.
