Bungled robbery in eastern Brisbane leaves two men shot

TWO men were shot in a bungled robbery in Brisbane's eastern suburbs on Sunday morning.

Police believe three armed men, wearing masks and balaclavas, broke into a Murarrie share house at 3.40am. They confronted a 41-year-old resident demanding cash. When he refused, one of them shot him above the knee.

Police believe the men attempted to flee when a 61-year-old resident confronted them in the back yard with a shovel. He knocked one of the men to the ground before he was shot in the shoulder.

Acting Detective Superintendent Geoff Sheldon said police believe the robbers targeted the 41-year-old but described the attack as "amateurish".

Police need assistance identifying those involved.
