Two horses dead after Tin Can Bay Rd crash

TWO horses are dead after a traffic crash at Tin Can Bay Rd last night involving one car.

Authorities, who were called to the accident near Grimley Rd at Canina at 9.40pm, said one horse was dead on arrival and a vet was called to euthanize the second horse.

The horses were thought to have been wandering the road after escaping from a nearby paddock.

The road was blocked for about an hour while the crash was attended to.

The driver, who was the only person in the car, was not injured.

Authorities also attended an earlier single-vehicle crash on the Bruce Hwy, south of Gunalda at 1.30pm involving one male and one female. A Queensland Fire and Rescue spokesman said the vehicle was upside down near Lindleys Lane but the occupants were not trapped.

One person had a cut to the head.

On Saturday Gympie fire and rescue officers attended a kitchen fire at Woondum Rd, Mothar Mountain. The fire was virtually extinguished before Gympie's fire crew arrived at 6.30pm.
