RUGBY LEAGUE: Gladstone's Jyde Dwyer said he was encouraged with the feedback he got from CQ Capras coach Kim Williams last weekend.

After a courageous 16-6 loss to NRL powerhouse Brisbane Broncos at Theodore, Dwyer is confident of another solid showing in trial number two against Townsville Blackhawks on Saturday night in Mackay.

"He started me off the bench but once I went on, I ended up playing a lot more minutes than I thought and ended up finishing the game out there," he said.

Dwyer will be in the starting line-up and joins fellow Gladstone players Ryan Flintham and Tyson White.

The powerfully built Dwyer said fitness was the key in last week's effort against the NRL club. "Yes, it definitely was a faster-paced game but the fitness Kim has put us through in pre-season showed out there and we were able to hold our own and surprise a lot of people," he said.

White, who will play at second row with Dwyer, missed all of last season with a knee injury.

But he said his knee was all good and that he was reasonably happy how he played last week.

"There's obviously room for improvement and the knee was fine," he said.

"I'm excited for Ryan (Flintham) to get a crack and also to give us blokes a few more minutes."

Williams expects a "highly enthusiastic and energetic performance" from his charges.

"It's a good position for us to be in. We've got an opportunity to see all the players that didn't get a run this week," he said.

"It's the Blackhawks' first hit-out so I expect they'll name a very strong line-up."

Lock Jerry Key will be rested, which will allow Jamie Hill, who impressed off the bench last week, the chance to get some good minutes.
