Tour volunteers prove they are the best in the yards

FREE weekly tours of the Roma Saleyards have received a prestigious Certificate of Excellence from the world's largest travel site, TripAdvisor.

The site has an overwhelming influence on holidaymakers, and presents the awards to attractions and establishments which are consistently garnering positive reviews.

For the saleyards, that consistent rating is 4.5 stars.

Councillor Puddy Chandler, Portfolio Chair for Tourism, said that positive feedback is boosting the saleyards' popularity.

"It is a great achievement to receive acknowledge- ment from TripAdvisor and visitors, for the local tour guides who volunteer their time and efforts,” she said.

Cr Peter Flynn, Portfolio Chair for Roma Saleyards, said without the volunteers, the tours would not be possible.

"We thank the volunteers for giving up their time to share their stories and knowledge of the saleyards and the industry with visitors.

"In 2018 over 4500 visitors came to experience the tours,” he said.

Construction on more facilities at the saleyards, including an Interpretive Centre and Multi-Purpose Facility, will begin soon.
