PIETER van Slobbe just keeps finding new ways outdo himself every December.

The Roma resident is one of the hundreds of people putting up Christmas lights displays around town, with his set-up on Miscamble St particularly large.

Mr van Slobbe (below) said people noticed when he and his family spent Christmas away from Roma last year - because his home wasn't lit up with hundreds of lights and decorations.

"We've been doing it for years - the year before last I had Santa with an ATM and that was very popular," he said.

"I do different things every year - I went away and people got upset because I didn't have a display up."

Mr van Slobbe said the main reasons he does the lights were for his grandchildren and the town itself.

"I've got three grandkids and they help me set it up every year," he said.

"I like to see smiles on people's faces."
