Toni finding a new ‘twist’ on fundraising

WHEN Roma’s Toni Boon shaves her hair next month, she’ll be thinking of her best friend Caroline Hinz.

It’s been 20 years since Ms Hinz lost her battle with leukaemia, with Ms Boon deciding now was the time to raise money to prevent the same fate for others.

“I saw what Caroline went through so shaving your head is nothing really,” she said.

“To me, it’s noting in a very small way what a sufferer might go through, which is enormous.”

Ms Boon will be making the big shave on March 12 outside Bakearoma at 11am, with Hair FX doing the shaving.

But in a small ‘twist’ on the classic fundraiser, the hairdressers will be putting no less than 60 ponytails in Ms Boon’s hair beforehand, with people able to chop one off for $10.

“I’m hoping they will do it – people like doing things like this,” she said.

“I’ve got a lot of hair and people really like cutting hair off.”

This move wasn’t just for novelty – Ms Boon’s hair will be donated to a wigmaker in Sydney to help patients recovering from treatment.

“The lady said they like receiving them in ponytails, so it all works out,” she said.
