Toddler bitten after picking up snake at rural property

AN 18-month-old boy has been rushed to hospital with a suspected snake bite after he was found holding a snake at a Lockyer Valley property this afternoon.

The boy's mother rang 000 when she spotted her son holding the snake at their home on Airforce Rd at Helidon about 3.30pm.

Paramedics assessed the boy who was taken to Toowoomba Hospital.

A QAS spokesman said the boy had travelled in a stable condition.

The type of snake has not been identified.

The QAS is reminding people to remain vigilant for snakes as the warmer weather continues, and to know the correct procedures for wrapping a snake bite.
