Maroochydore's Lachlan Timms ready to whip up the Storm

MAROOCHYDORE Swans junior Lachlan Timms says he is will make the most of his contract with the Melbourne Storm Under-20s as he takes the next step to achieving his NRL dream.

The 19-year-old was scouted by Melbourne Storm development manager Matt Adamson, who spotted the prop running around for the Redcliffe Dolphins in the Fogs Colts competition.

"Matt Adamson expressed interest and that he would like me at the club," Timms said.

"I was very excited to be a part of the club because even though it (Storm) hasn't been around that long, it has made a big impact in the time it has been here."

The Storm's decision to relocate the national youth team here from the Victorian capital could not have come at a better time for Timms who will spend the last year of his eligibility in the competition playing and training from home.

"To be able to come home and play at such a high level is great," Timms said.

"It works out perfectly because the last two years I was travelling from Brisbane to the Sunshine Coast.

"Getting the opportunity is wonderful."

The Under-20s will play all their home games at Sunshine Coast Stadium and began pre-season training a fortnight ago.

The Melbourne club is known to pay close attention to all their sides with NRL coach Craig Bellamy familiar with players at every level.

Timms said being able to showcase his skills to the likes of the Storm mentor was a motivating factor.

"It is awesome for me just to play in a Storm jersey, but to know that they might be watching is something pretty humbling," he said.

"I didn't get to play Intrust Super Cup at Redcliffe, but if I can keep training hard and have a good season, I might get to play Intrust Super Cup at the Falcons," said Timms, who is studying teaching.
