Tide claims luxury BMW that got bogged on Fraser Island
A LUXURY BMW worth about $45,000 has been claimed by the high tide on Fraser Island after a family visiting the area from Brisbane became bogged while driving on the beach.
Andrew Mikitis, from Fraser Island Towing, retrieved the vehicle, a BMW X5, after the incident just over a week ago, and towed it back to Eurong.
"A Chinese couple and their young child were in the car," he said.
The vehicle was then taken to David Nash Smash Repairs in Urangan where it was declared a write-off due to saltwater damage.
David Nash, the owner of the business, said the car shouldn't have been taken on to a beach as it was an all-wheel drive, not a four-wheel drive vehicle.
Prices for new BMW X5s start about $85,000.
