Thugs rip out every seat in train carriage vandalism

WEARY commuters were left seething after a train had all it seats ripped out by a thoughtless thug.

The seats were torn from their frames and piled up at the end of the aisle on the top level of a carriage on a Blue Mountains intercity service bound for Lithgow on Tuesday night.

Kitchen aid Steve Mateer, 28, captured the carnage on his smartphone after he got on the train at Katoomba.

"I have never seen anything like it," he said.

NSW TrainLink Chief Executive Rob Mason said CCTV footage has been provided to police to assist their inquiries.

"This sort of mindless vandalism is extremely frustrating and potentially leads to extra costs and inconvenience for our customers.

"We have CCTV vision from a range of cameras around our trains and we are working closely with police to identify those responsible."

Police Transport Command officers are investigating the incident.
