Thieves break into Anglican Church, steal charity bike
ROMA'S Anglican church has been the target of a godless act of crime.
Police have reported that between the hours of 7.15pm on Thursday and 9.30am on Friday, thieves have broken in to the church and stolen a bike that was up for raffle.
The offenders had forced entry through a door and have then stolen the pink BMX bike
Anglican church leader Elizabeth Nolan first realised the bike was stolen and was the one who reported the crime.
"I noticed the door had been jimmied open but I didn't really think too much of it until a few hours later,” she said.
"I suddenly thought 'oh the bike was missing' and then I rang around to make sure no one from the church had collected it.”
When Ms Nolan realised that it had in fact been stolen, she then informed the police.
"The bike was a prize for a raffle to raise money for the parish,” she said.
"One of the ladies from the church had started it to help raise money to get an air-conditioner installed.”
Police are appealing to the public to be on the lookout for anyone who may have acquired a new pink recently and if they believe it to be suspicious to report it to the police.
