THE owner of a drone with a fitted GoPro was flying the device on Airlie Esplanade on January 2 at 7.30 am as the weekend markets were being set up.

The drone was landed about 30 metres from where the owner was standing (safe landing location).

A very opportunistic thief has quickly grabbed the drone as it was landed and ran into the nearby crowd - stealing it - as the owner watched on nearby.

The offender is described as being a Caucasian man in his late 30s and wearing a hat and black long sleeved T-shirt with a black backpack.
