IT'S a tradition that might be lost on many in younger generations, but for dancing couple John Ford and Thelma Steinohrt, ballroom dancing is a tradition they want preserved.

The pair was on hand to offer their dancing experience at the Hodgson Hall Christmas Tree event on Saturday night.

The pair has only been dancing together for 18 months, but between them they have 70 years of experience.

Mr Ford said they had both lost their partners to cancer, and had found their love of dance through each other.

"It's great physical exercise," he said.

"Both Thelma and I have great chemistry and dancing together comes naturally.

"Usually Thelma takes the lead, and I'm the student," Mr Ford quipped.
