Theft of $8 from charity results in hundreds for repairs

THE theft of only $8 from a paper cup will cost hundreds of dollars worth of window repairs for a local charity, after an alleged break-in last week.

Two rear windows of the Roma Salvation Army office were allegedly smashed between July 5 and 6, with a paper cup containing $8 stolen from the premises.

Roma Salvation Army’s Colin Alley said it was a tragic event for the local charity.

“It’s very sad that people have to break into a charity to meet their needs when they could have asked,” he said.

“The repairs come out of the local funds, which should be going towards the community.

“It’s an inconvenience to the shop owners and to everyone involved.”

Roma Police are conducting inquiries into the incident.

Anyone with information can phone Roma Police on 4622 9333 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
