The strength of the Roma community always prevails

CHILD Friendly Roma's latest donation following the the destruction of the new toilet facilities at Lions Park shows what Roma is famous for - its strong community.

The organisation is known for creating spaces in town that are family friendly and this week they donated $2750 to Lions Club of Roma, aiding the construction of an under-3s section play area at Lions park.

Co-founder Sue Barford said they had put money aside and were looking for a project that was going to benefit the broader community not just a specific group.

"It definitely has come at a fitting time and we can't really think of a better group to give it to,” she said.

"The Lions have been fundraising to improve this park to make it beneficial to the community and they have done a lot of work such as the shade structures, play area, the flying fox and we just thought the group isreally dedicated to our community that align with our goals at Child Friendly Roma.”

The U3s area will encompass the new toilet block, a sand area, a small slide shaped like a dragonfly, toadstools and mushrooms like a fairy garden with a fence around it.

Lions Club of Roma president Madeline Johnson said she was immensely grateful.

"As you know we've only just finished the toilet block and we now have to get it fixed - which has been a bit of a blow,” she said.

"This kind act says we have a really strong community, that people are willing to get in and help, not just themselves.”

Project completion is forecast for next year.
