Youth Group preparing themselves for Star Wars VII opening
MOVIE nights and youth groups are two of the best combinations out there and the Roma Combined Youth Group has the best way to make the combination work.
In anticipation of the new Star Wars film out in December, Roma Combined Youth Group will hold a community fundraiser and sausage sizzle to celebrate their last meeting of the year.
With the assistance of local businesses, attendees will participate in a costume contest for the best-dressed character and enjoy a sausage sizzle from 5.30pm.
Youth organiser Aaron Culverhouse said the incentive was to get local businesses on board to create a fun community night for the kids.
"We run a variety of youth nights for the group but we figured it would be great to have a night that supports the local businesses in the area," he said.
"Events like these try to keep everybody happy."
Funds raised from the event will go towards supporting the youth group with equipment for 2016.
Mr Culverhouse said the last night for the churches coincided well with the release of the film, which is one of the most anticipated films of the year.
"It's almost universally known that everyone wants to see it," he said.
"What better way to give the kids something to do than get them involved in a movie night with others?"
The costume competition may also be a first in Roma, with Mr Culverhouse expressing optimism at the prospect of people turning up in their best gear.
"We may as well trial one in Roma, seeing as they hold these premiere-type events in Brisbane and Sydney," he said.
"What we want to do is build a bit more community around these events, getting the kids involved, having the support of businesses, it's a good opportunity for people to get behind something and have something to do."
