The Ducks quack a big win
Touch Football: It was a sea of yellow across the touch football field on Friday evening as The Ducks took to the field for the big dance against T-Rex.
The underdogs of the season, The Ducks came out flapping fast and strong in the first half, maintaining a strong lead over the toughest team in the competition for the season.
The Ducks started to pick up more momentum as the crowd cheered them on, scoring try after try until the final score read 8-4, the T-Rex team now extinct.
Team captain for The Ducks Alex Coonan said the game was a story of rags to riches.
"The Ducks suffered a minor setback midway through the season," he said.
"One of our players decided she would try and do the splits while at the Sunny Coast.
"And snapped her hamstring and another one decided to play netball and couldn't do that really well and busted her ankle."
Despite losing most of their female players, The Ducks collected their feathers and quacked their way into the grand final.
"We lost nearly all our girls near the end of the season, and we recruited a couple of new ones late, but had the same guys all the way through," Coonan said.
"We just put on a nice little run at the end and with a bit of luck we got through and won," he said.
Coonan commended T-Rex players for their stellar competition during the season, stating they were the team to beat all year.
"T-Rex has been the best team in the competition for the past 12 months.
"We all really talked to each other well and defended and at the end that's all we really needed to do. Go The Ducks," he said.
Roma Touch Football Club president Shane Ferry said this year the 18 teams in the competition provided a thrilling season.
"We had a great year and are looking forward to next season with hopefully more new and old faces taking part," Ferry said.
The 2019 touch football season will kick off in the second week of Term One, in February.
