Teen arrested, jailed after crashing allegedly stolen car

A teenager is accused of stealing a vehicle in Charleville and going on a joy ride before crashing it on the way to Cunnamulla.

According to Charleville police, juveniles approached a Parry St address and broke a door handle to get inside the building between 9pm on February 7 and 6am the next day.

It’s alleged they took items from the building before leaving.

The same night and morning between 7pm and 5.30am, juveniles allegedly went into an insecure vehicle, found the keys and drove off from the Burke St address.

They are believed to have passed over the median strip and drove away in an unknown direction.

Police found the vehicle crashed approximately 5km away on the way to Cunnamulla.

An extensive investigation was undertaken and police found allegedly stolen items at a Charleville address, which has helped them investigated other incidents too.

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested and charged with two counts of possessing tainted property, two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, enter dwelling with intent by break at night in company, and stealing.

He will appear in court at a later date and remains in custody.
