Taxi driver allegedly assaulted over payment dispute

THREE men and a teenager are being questioned by police following the alleged robbery and assault of a 61-year-old taxi driver at Woodridge overnight.

It is alleged around 11.20pm a group of males caught a taxi at the Station Road railway station and asked to be taken to Tenah Merah when an argument about payment occurred between the taxi driver and the passengers.

During this incident the taxi driver was punched a number of times and his change bag and wallet were stolen before the males fled.

Police located the males aged 23, 20, 19 and 16 years a short time later at the intersection of Ewing and Wembley Roads.

The taxi driver was transported to hospital for treatment to facial injuries.

Investigations are continuing.
