TASC provides a voice for those who need it most

THE Advocacy and Support Centre’s (TASC) want the Roma community to know that they are here to help.

TASC specialise in providing legal advice, support and guidance for those who are most vulnerable.

Chief executive officer of TASC Philippa Whitman said their mentality is empowering people to make their own choices in life.

“So basically we have been here six months and we are not going anywhere, we want to make a long term commitment to Roma,” she said.

“We just want people to know that we can help, you don’t have to have a big problem but we are a voice for people who might not get heard.

“We’re a big centre and we are committed to the area so we can bring people in as they are needed.”

Ms Whitman said TASC have been working on ways to improve their service.

“I’ve wanted to have this service out here for such a long time and it’s just really great that we are here now,” she said.

“We are going to try and open an out of hours clinic for people who can’t get away during the day so there will be lawyers here after hours.

“We want to reach out to the multicultural community here, we have a few plans that we’ve got in progress.”
