AUSTRALIA'S biggest festival of light illuminated the New South Wales capital last night.
Vivid Sydney - a 23-day celebration of "light, music and ideas" - has returned for its ninth annual instalment, with organisers promising the largest and most interactive festival to date.
Buildings across the city, including the Opera House, were bathed in moving light shows, and at Taronga Zoo giant lit-up animals greeted visitors from around the world.
The festival drew 1.7 million people last year.
