Power outage shortens Bassett Park concert

LOCALS were shocked by a large flash of light coming from the Roma power station on Saturday night, which could be seen from as far as Bassett Park.

Some people enjoying the Swingin' Utes festival were distracted momentarily as the surprising flash occurred in the south-east at about 6.45pm.

The light came as a result of a downed high-voltage feeder line near the substation off the Warrego Highway.

Troy Cassar-Daley, who was performing at theBassett Park festival, was forced to end his swing performance earlier than expected after the power outage damaged the band's key sound equipment.

About 550 customers also lost power, mainly in western parts of Roma and south to Bungil Creek.

An Ergon spokesperson said power was reinstated to all apart from 10 customers in the immediate vicinity of the downed line within two hours and crews then repaired the line and power was fully restored just after midnight.
