Swimmers lap up awards

The Roma Swimming Club held its annual end-of-season awards ceremony at the Roma pool on Thursday evening.

Medals and trophies were presented to children of each age group, with the top swimmer winning the Age Champion award.

The Roma Swimming Club has had swimmers attend 10 regional carnivals over the course of the summer season.

Roma Swimming Club president Stacey Bignell said it had been a strong season for the swimmers.

"This season we wanted to focus on making sure the kids were being consistent each week,” Bignell said.

"We encouraged them to swim all four strokes each week to help them improve across the board.

"Some of the other things we focus on is a lot of our kids compete at carnivals, so we teach them how to do starts and finishes and how to behave at carnivals.

"But the most important thing is that they are having fun and being safe around the water.”

Bignell said the awards ceremony was the perfect end to the season.

"It's important to celebrate the kids' achievements over the year,” Bignell said.

"We had heaps of new little ones start this year, which was awesome as we had the big kids help them out.

"Just seeing the improvements they have all made has been fantastic.”

The 2018 swimming season will start back at the Roma pool in October.
