Swap 'til you drop at Roma's Community Clothing Swap

ROMA'S Community Clothing Swap, to be held on Sunday, is a perfect opportunity for residents to refill their winter wardrobe at no cost.

Enjoy some mingling and free retail therapy by dropping off unwanted clothing and, hopefully, finding some gems to take home.

Donors will get first dibs at the clothing, and the swap will be open to the rest of the public an hour later.

Member of the Roma Socials community group, Naya Greenwood believes in today's world of "fast fashion” we have clothes that have been created rapidly, are trend-driven, inexpensive and mass produced which is a recipe for environmental disaster.

"We wanted to come up with a sustainable idea to help slow down the fast fashion cycle and maybe even encourage us to look at our purchasing differently,” Mrs Greenwood said.

"Hopefully it will encourage people to not impulsively buy something because it's cheap or cool and actually think about the fashion life cycle.”

With the average Australian throwing away 23kg of clothing every year, ridding wardrobes of items that don't spark joy and passing them on helps keep clothes out of landfill.

The focus is on winter clothing and accessories but summer clothing is also accepted.

Inspect each item for quality and cleanliness before donating. If items have minor defects, they should be ones that are easy to repair.
