Summer cricket a smash hit

CRICKET: Roma has had a cracking start to the summer season and as 2017 gets under-way there is plenty more cricket to come.

The season got rolling with a T20 competition allowing players to blow out the cobwebs and find their feet on the pitch.

Competition was tight, full of big hitting and some nail-biting games as the South's produced some stellar shots and clever play to snatch the win in the final.

On November 12 a team of U10 and U14 players journeyed over to St George to play in some challenging conditions.

The day was a fun one had by all and the club is looking forward to having St George play in Roma in the latter part of the season.

The over forty competition leading up to Christmas also produced good indications of a strong season by a showing in the finals but were unable to come home with the trophy.

It resumes again this weekend on Sunday January 8 as the Souths take on Wallumbilla at Gallas Fox, Injune clashes with Mitchell at Injune, the Railways tackle the Colts at Clubhouse and the Leprechauns have the bye.

On Saturday January 28 Roma will be holding its annual 7 a side charity shield competition and are currently looking for nominations.

If you would like to nominate please email: Stree.roma@hwy52.com.au or contact Mark on 0417 754 342 for more information.

All nominations are required by January 13.
