‘STUPID’: Woman busted drink driving in parked car in Roma
A woman has gone in front of court after being caught over the alcohol limit while sitting in the drivers seat of a parked car in Roma.
Jenna Renee De Lai was found by police in a carpark on Little Kurrajong Way, Roma, while her vehicle was running and her keys were in the ignition, the Roma Magistrates Court heard on February 3.
Police prosecutor sergeant Heather Whiting said police questioned De Lai if she was drinking, and she told them she drank four Great Northerns between 10pm and 11.15pm on January 20.
De Lai told police she was drinking at a Roma pub, then drove to her parent’s home, then drove to the carpark, the court heard.
At 1.25am the next morning, she blew 0.076, sergeant Whiting said.
De Lai, who represented herself, owned up to the incident.
“There’s no excuse for what I did. It was irresponsible and stupid,” she told the court.
Magistrate Peter Saggers said because De Lai committed a high range drink driving offence in the past five years, he was going to hand down a longer disqualification.
“If you’re going to drink, just don’t drive,” Magistrate Saggers said.
“Because now, your history’s starting to look pretty bad.”
De Lai pleaded guilty to being in charge of a vehicle over the general alcohol limit, but not over the middle.
She was fined $500, disqualified from driving for nine months and had a conviction recorded on her traffic history.
