Storms on horizon? Bureau says 'maybe'

GYMPIE and its neighbouring regions are clinging to hope as the weather says "maybe" on rain.

But the Bureau of Meteorology is not making any promises in its forecast from Sunday afternoon.

But even a slight chance is some source of hope for a dusty and fire-prone region that needs rain desperately.

Possible fog Monday may leave dampness behind but the slight chance of a shower is confined to the coastal fringe.

"Zero chance elsewhere," the bureau says.

Early risers could find temperatures as low as 6 degrees.

The outlook improves on Tuesday, but not by so much that you would bet on any real rain.

"A slight (20%) chance of a shower or thunderstorm in the south in the afternoon and evening and near zero chance of rain elsewhere," the forecast says.

Wednesday could see a shower or even a thunderstorm in the afternoon over a more widespread area, but still it is only a 20% chance.

Things pick up again on Thursday when the "slight" chance of rain at least rises to 30%.
