Stolen sculpture discovered in Masonic Lodge

A CHANCE discovery has led Roma police to the location of a missing pelican sculpture, which was recently stolen from the front of the Roma Community Art Gallery.

The bronze bird was found at the nearby old Masonic Lodge, where vandals had thrown the bird through a glass window.

A member of the Western Star staff discovered the pelican was inside the lodge on Thursday morning, after noticing the broken window.

Roma police have taken forensic evidence from the pelican sculpture to continue the investigation and has returned it to gallery committee member Barry Braithwaite.

"We're very happy to have him back," Mr Braithwaite said.

The sculpture was vandalised sometime from December 24-27.

Anyone with information about the crime should contact Crimestoppers on 1800333000.
