POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a stolen car linked to a string of offences was set on fire at Ballard on Friday night.

The red Mitsubishi Lancer, reported stolen from Herries St, East Toowoomba on December 10, was found engulfed in flames off Murphys Creek Rd about 9.45pm on Friday.

It had two stolen number plates attached which had been stolen from different addresses on December 12.

Checks found the Lancer had been linked to a spate of incidents in Toowoomba from December 10 to 17, including evading police.

A police spokesman said investigations had determined an accelerant had been used to ignite the fire inside the vehicle which had been totally destroyed in the fire.
