Stingers thrilled to join other athletes after gastro outbreak

WATER POLO: Only one member of the Australian women's water polo team remains in isolation following an outbreak of gastro.

The Stingers flew into Rio on Tuesday from Rome, where four of the 16-member squad got the bug, but were kept out of the Olympic Village as a precaution.

Vice-captain Rowie Webster told reporters: "We are so pumped to finally be here.

"Arriving in Rio last night but not being able to go into the village was a bit disappointing, but I'm just stoked to move in. We are all doing well and the small issue with the bug isn't going impact our preparation - we are ready to roll.”

The name of the player still in isolation was not revealed, but dual Olympian Ash Southern expected to be reunited with her soon.

"We've left one behind, but we hope she'll join us tomorrow and look forward to having everyone here,” she said.
