‘Stand-out show’ for Wallumbilla
WITH record numbers and a surprising resurgence in the poultry and photography sections, 2016’s Wallumbilla Show has shaped up to be one of the best so far for the show society.
Secretary Andy Klein said it was a surprise to see the renewed interest in poultry compared to last year’s competition.
“The poultry section has been outstanding this year, with 144 entries alone; it’s a record,” she said.
“It could be from the grant to build the new poultry pens that has piked everyone’s interest.”
Photography also enjoyed a boost, with more than 300 entries from across the region competing for the grand prize.
Wallumbilla and Yuleba State School students also got their chance to appear in the show, with a display of short proses and poems pinned up in the pavilion.
The renewed interest in the poultry section, along with the success of the newly introduced cattle section and a high turnout for the horse event section, made the 2016 event a “stand-out show” for the society.
“There’s been a very positive turnout; it goes to show how the community pulls together for their show,” Ms Klein said.
“We owe a big thanks to Maranoa Regional Council for helping out with the regional drought funding, and to the community, sponsors and members for their ongoing support.”
