St George Pony Club jumping for joy at funding

NEW CROSS country jumps are on the horizon for the St George Pony and Riding Club who will benefit from a funding boost from the Gambling Community Benefit Fund (GCBF).

They will receive a grant of $20 000 to construct the cross country jumps, and secretary Kelly Webster said the whole club was excited for the much needed upgrade.

"There were probably half or a bit more that not were up to standard and getting a bit old so we were just need of an update to bring it back in line with the standard," she said.

"We were really happy to hear the grant had been approved, our president Tom Gleeson did a lot of work in putting the grant application in.

"All the kids that are in pony club love going over cross country jumps so they will be really excited to see them when they finally are in put in place."

Ms Webster said she is hoping the new jumps will allow the club to host some official events in the future.

"Currently we've been using them just for ourselves but a couple of other clubs in our area like Bollon and Dirranbandi will benefit from the new jumps as well," she said.

The cross country jumps are expected to be completed before their annual camp by the end of July.

Eight other community groups from Mitchell, Roma, Surat and Mungindi will also receive shares in the $222,344 in funding from the GCBF.
