Spirits high for first Maranoa Team Penning day of the year
TEAMWORK, fun and good horsemanship was the resounding theme of the day at the Maranoa Team Penning event held at Bassett Park on Sunday.
Teams of three riders worked in harmony to cut out the correct cattle and drive them to the pen as fast as possible, with many teams struggling to pen three head of cattle before time ran out.
However it was the team of Kathy Fricker, Emmy Lou Potts and Justin Powell that took out the event with a time of 1.34 minutes, before the Barrels and Maroochy Bend races were in full swing after lunch.
Maranoa Team Penning secretary Hazel Beitz said everyone was pleased the day was finally able to go ahead after struggles with sourcing cattle.
"We normally have about eight events a year but this has been our first one this year because of the drier conditions,” she said.
"It's a day where people can bring their horses out and have a bit of fun, without being highly competitive. A big thank you to the Green family for donating the cattle for the day as the day couldn't be run without them.”
